Year of the Ocean: Our Ocean Future

In support of the 1998 International Year of the Ocean, The Heinz Center convened a four-sector Steering Group to examine the Nation’s stake in the oceans and the major challenges and opportunities for the future. Through a series of workshops, members of the group met with nearly 200 ocean leaders from all sectors to help identify and describe key issues and suggest how they might be addressed. 

The results of this effort were published in May 1998 in Our Ocean Future: Themes and Issues Concerning the Nation’s Stake in the Oceans, available on our publications page.
