Condition of Plant and Animal Communities

The Heinz Center is working to develop the core national indicator "Condition of Plant and Animal Communities." A workshop was held on November 9-10, 2004 in Minneapolis, MN to develop candidate indicators. Candidate indicators were reviewed by the Center's Ecosystem Contact Groups during the summer of 2005. A follow-up meeting was held November 30, 2005 to address specific candidate indicators, and potentially to select an indicator to populate with data. As participants at the second workshop reached consensus, the Center is now focusing its efforts on developing a species density/taxonomic composition indicator.
