Indicators of Ecological Effects of Air Quality Project
~ Linking Ambient Conditions with Ecosystem Changes ~
The Heinz Center is developing indicators to track ecosystem responses to changing air quality. The project is made possible through a partnership with the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Air Markets Division. Project results will provide EPA and other policy-makers with scientific tools to help them assess the effectiveness of air pollution control strategies designed to protect forests, agricultural lands, streams and coastal waters.

- Identify the most important metrics of ecosystem exposure and response to atmospheric nitrogen, sulfur, ozone and mercury.
- Investigate the ecological links between air quality and the condition of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
- Recommend national level indicators and describe data systems to support them.
